Week One: Motherhood of Mary
St. Elizabeth Ann Seton lost her mother at age 3. She had a void and a longing that lasted until she learned that the Blessed Virgin Mary was truly her mother. Fr. O'Connor shares the life experiences of Elizabeth Ann Seton and the teaching of the Catholic Church on the Motherhood of Mary.
The teaching section of the video is followed by the recitation of the Rosary. During the month of May, the Church encourages us to spend some time deepening our relationship with Mary through this beautiful devotion.
Questions for Reflection:
Below are a couple of questions for you to consider while watching the video presentation. Make some notes and follow up by having a conversations with someone who is also watching this series.
1. What experiences in your life have left you feeling alone or orphaned? Ask Jesus to show you where he was present at these times, or maybe, how Mary was present. Listen for an answer.
2. Who is your "soul's sister"? Elizabeth Ann Seton called her sister-in-law, Rebecca, her "soul's sister." Mary turned to her cousin, Elizabeth. When you have matters of faith to discuss, who do you turn to? Have you touched base recently? Let them know how important their friendship is to you.
3. How has Mary been a mother to you? Share an experience of Mary in your life.
This is lesson one of four. Each Wednesday of May we will look at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton and her experiences with, and relationship to, Mary. These four lessons will be paired with one of the four sets of mysteries of the Most Holy Rosary, which we will pray together.
